Ovarian cancer

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer, or cancer of the cervix, is primarily caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and isn’t common in Australia. There are usually no symptoms in early stages, which makes it hard to detect. For that reason, it is recommended to have regular Cervical Screening Tests.

Endometrial cancer

Endometrial cancer is also called uterine cancer because it affects the lining of the uterus or womb. It’s the most common cancer of the female reproductive system and is often discovered at an early stage, which means most women are cured.

Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a cancer that grows in the ovaries, the small organs that produce eggs and female hormones. The risk of being diagnosed with ovarian cancer is higher for some women due to a particular gene, the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation.

Risk reducing surgery called risk reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (rrBSO) is an option for women carrying this particular gene.
